Would my Dell Windows XP reinstallation CD work on other computer brands?
I bought a Windows XP reinstallation CD from Dell. It saids "For Distribution Only With a New Dell PC."
Will this only work on my Dell PC or will it work on other computer brands?
The CD only costs me $10 from Dell. A regular Windows XP Home Edition CD costs more than $100. So what's the difference?
Dell computer only, to be more specific with the model it came with.
Reason is that it should install all the hardware drivers and bloatware that comes with the Dell computer. Also it's product key is registered for that computer, so there is no need to buy a new license aswell as a new product key.
If you tried to install this disk on another computer. It is very likely it will not run. Assuming that the installation program does not notice that it was a non-Dell computer. It will install incorrect hardware drivers and the DRM in windows will notice that it is not using that hardware it was licensed to use on and disable itself.
